HARC is promoting organic farming in a big way in the
Rawain Valley. This has gained momentum after the government declared the state
of Uttaranchal as an organic state. The main objective of the mission is to
reduce the production cost by reducing the external inputs and to maintain the
health and fertility of the soil for a long time. For this, HARC has motivated
farmers to adopt organic farming techniques. The information on techniques and
methods of organic farming is being disseminated through capacity building
programs. Farmers from the valley have been motivated to do organic farming.
These farmers have been trained by HARC to prepare organic manure such as vermi
wash and liquid manure. Farmers are using vermi compost and liquid manure and
other organic farming techniques which have reduced the production cost. HARC is
also facilitating the process for organic certification of traditional crops.
HARC has trained the farmers to document the organic certification process.
Farmers associations are also motivating their members to utilize organic manure
and pesticides.
